Support for Families of Gifted Children

Are you concerned that your child isn’t thriving at school, but you’re unsure what to ask for?

Do you feel like your child’s school feedback doesn’t match what you see at home?

Have you received an educational or cognitive assessment and been left wondering what it means?

If any of these questions sound familiar, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to navigate this journey by yourself. From experience, a parent’s intuition is usually correct, and it’s worth following. At Flow Education, we work alongside parents to understand their child’s strengths, challenges, and unique learning profile.

Whether you’ve just started exploring your child’s needs or already have assessment results in hand, we specialise in bridging the gap between allied health professionals and schools. Our goal is to empower you to advocate with confidence, so your child can access the opportunities they need to fulfil their potential, and find their flow.

ADVOCACY

Navigating the school system can be complex and overwhelming. Success often depends on knowing which questions to ask, and when. We make this easier by supporting families in advocating for their child. Whether you're preparing for a meeting, requesting support, or unsure how to communicate with your school, we’ll work with you to feel confident and informed. - Clarify your child’s entitlements under frameworks such as the NCCD - Prepare documentation and talking points for school meetings - Attend school meetings with you - Advise on appropriate support, enrichment, or acceleration pathways

ASSESSMENT INTERPRETATION

Cognitive, educational, and behavioural assessments are often written in technical language, and the recommendations can be unclear or vague. We can help you unpack the results and understand how they impact your child. - Break down reports into clear, parent-friendly language - Highlight key insights about your child’s strengths, challenges, and learning profile - Identify practical implications for the classroom and home - Support you in using the report to advocate effectively for your child

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PLAN DEVELOPMENT

Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are essential tools for supporting neurodivergent learners to ensure their learning needs are met at school. We work with families to develop ILPs that are clear, strengths-based, and aligned with your child’s needs. - Develop tailored ILPs that reflect your child’s learning profile - Translate assessment findings into practical classroom strategies - Provide documentation that schools can use to support differentiation, enrichment, and extension - Work closely with you and the school to ensure the plan is actionable, and effective

SUPPORTING TWICE EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS

Twice-exceptional (2e) learners are gifted children who also experience learning, behavioural, or developmental differences. These students often have complex profiles, where their strengths may be masked by their challenges. These children are often misunderstood and may lack the support they require at school. We specialise in recognising and responding to these unique profiles and have expertise in supporting children with: - Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) - Specific learning disorders (such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia) - Anxiety disorders

CHOOSING SCHOOLS

Finding the right school can be one of the most important yet stressful decisions a parent has to make. If you find that your child is not thriving in their current school environment, or you're unsure which setting will best support their learning, we can help families navigate this process: - Clarifying your child’s learning needs, priorities, and support requirements - Comparing school cultures, programs, and teaching philosophies - Providing insight into which environments may best suit your child best - Assisting in preparing questions or documentation for school enrolment meetings

EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS

If you’re seeking a deeper understanding of your child’s learning profile, we work with trained professionals who can conduct the full range of cognitive, behavioural and educational assessments. This will help you understand your child’s abilities and learning needs more clearly in order to make effective changes at home and in school. - Administer cognitive, behavioural, and educational assessments - Explore key areas such as reading, writing, numeracy, reasoning, processing speed and memory - Identify educational gaps or areas of advanced ability - Provide a detailed written report with classroom strategies
